5 Proven Hoverboard Maintenance Tips

Hoverboards have been voted the best mobility device in 2016 and have been gaining popularity since then. They have remained in news after many prominent personalities were captured on cameras using them and this has increased the common folks’ desire to own one. Now having owned a hoverboard, you should know how to maintain it properly since proper maintenance will ensure longer life, greater performance and lesser chances of accidents and injuries. Below are the five proven maintenance tips for ensuring maximum utility of the hoverboards.

hoverboard mainternance tips

1.Regular cleaning of wheels

The wheels are the most important part of the hoverboard. Needless to say, regular cleaning and maintenance of wheels is important. With each use, dust and debris will get stuck in between the wheels, which should be cleaned properly. Since the wheels are connected to the motor, failing to clean them regularly may result in this debris interfering with the optimal functioning of the motor. A soft brush can be used for cleaning the wheels. You should also have a frequent check on tires, screws and the axle. Often times, regular hoverboard use may result in the loosening of these parts and may likely result in accident if used without fixing these small issues.

2.  Ensuring battery charge

Make sure that your battery is fully charged before use. Initial charging is equally important. You should also take care to avoid placing these batteries in areas of high temperatures. Avoid overcharging as it may affect the battery life. Also, store your hoverboard in a dry place after use to protect the batteries.

 3. Cleaning the board

The multilayered fibreboard must be cleaned to maintain the elegant looks of the hoverboard. With every usage dirt gets accumulated on the board. This may clog the hoverboard and can interfere with the functioning of sensor if the sensor remains dirty and clogged for a long time.

 4. Allow enough cooling time

Just like your smartphones, your hoverboard may also heat up after long periods of use. So it is important that you give ample time for your hoverboard to cool down. This will improve the efficiency and durability of the batteries and sensors. Fortunately, we use only standard Li-ion batteries, so you won’t face this problem with our hoverboard.

 5. Checking the pedals

Before starting a session, you should check that the pedals are not detached or loose. It will become difficult for you to control your hoverboard if the pedals become loose.

If you are planning to go for a vacation or you are not going to use the hoverboards for a longer period of time, then it is always better to clean them and choose a dry and cool place to store them which is also dust-free. Moisture can affect the durability of both the battery and the board.

Exercising a little bit of precaution can give you a safe, enjoyable riding experience for a long time to come. So buy the right one and use it right to enjoy your hoverboard.

How Does Self Balancing Scooter Works?

Self balancing scooter is fun to ride. Many wonder how it works and what the mechanism behind it is. This write up will give you an in depth explanation.

Self-balancing scooters are also known as hoverboards or balance boards. These were one of the most sought after gift option this year for both adults and kids. It feels very similar to skateboard, but in case of hoverboards, you don’t have to push it with legs to move because it runs on batteries. Without much ado, let’s get straight to how it works. First, let’s take a look at the structure of the hoverboard. Inside, there are several other important components that help the scooter to run efficiently. Basically, the vehicle has the following main components:

  • A control board
  • Solid frame with a central pivot
  • Plastic shield
  • Two gyroscopes/ sensor board
  • Charger port
  • A battery pack
  • Two electric motors present inside the wheels
  • Two tilt sensors present inside the wheels
  • Two IR sensors
  • Non-slip pedals/ Pressure pads
  • Power button
  • LED lights

How Does a Hoverboard Work?

Self balancing scooter or swag board has frames that spin in the center. Inside each wheel there are sensors and electric motors for detecting tilt angle and speed. The gyroscopes get the data from the inclinometer or tilt sensors present in the wheels and pass it on to the logic board, keeping the board straight throughout. There are buttons under both the foot pad that activate an infrared LED light, which also activates a sensor. The light continues to glow when the rider keeps their feet on the foot pad in the flat position, allowing the logic board to sense to stop the motor. Once the biker leans forward, the LED light is turned off and the sensor allow the logic board to give signals to spin the wheels, Since the motors are not connected to one another, the rider can take circles in one place.

The batteries

The batteries are the most important component of self balancing scooter. The logic sensor board is on the opposite side of the lithium ion batteries. This is designed this way to reduce heat. The batteries can be charged up in an hour and half or two. When fully charged, you can run the hoverboard for 6 to 7 hours, based on your body weight. As the speed and motion are all controlled by the vehicle itself, the only task you are required to do is to decide where you are willing to go and at what speed!

There have been cases of boards catching fires while people are riding on them. This happens mostly due to poor lithium-ion battery insulation and position, resulting in spontaneous combustion or the reason could also be defective charger. Some teardowns have exposed the insides of poor quality hoverboards to find a muddle of wires and faulty positioning of the batteries that oppose them to operate that safe temperature.

How to operate?

Learning to operate self balancing scooter won’t take much time. Those who know how to skate will find it easier. Even this is not tough for non-skaters, bet it kids or adults.

How to Ride A Skateboard

Step 1: Positioning your foot

The first and the most important thing you should do is deciding which foot you are putting forward.

The best way to find out which foot to put forward is by putting yourself in a hypothetical situation like when you are on a slippery surface and suddenly you have slipped, what foot would you put forward to protect yourself from slipping? The foot you put forward would be the foot to stance your ride. The left food is called regular and the right foot is a goofy trick.

In case you can use both the foot to stance, eventually, you will find comfortable with either of them. It would not take much time to try out each stance. Few skateboarders utilize one stance while doing street skate and they use the opposite stance when it comes to transition skating. It might take some time, but in the end, you will get used to using one foot to stance.

Skateboarding for the very first time could be both thrilling and an intimidating experience. You might face many difficulties initially, but once you master it, there is no stopping from skateboarding. But first, you need to practice.

Learning the tricks to ride a skateboard is just like learning how to begin riding a bicycle. The only difference is, on a bicycle you have brakes but, in a skateboard, you are going to have to use your foot to stop the skateboard.

The following are some of the simple steps on ‘how to ride a skateboard’ that you can try by yourself.

Step 2: Pushing

After learning to stance, it is time for you to learn how to push. When it comes to pushing, it is simple. Just walk to the skateboard, step one of your foot on it and use the other one to start pushing. If you do this, it will be easier for you to decide your stance. If you have a regular stance, you can use the left foot to stand and use your right to push forward and if your stance is goofy then it will be vice versa.

One thing you should remember when you use your straight back foot to push, your other front foot should straightway the face front. But, if both your foot are on the skateboard, you should turn the front foot sideways.

Step 3: Turning

You can find two different types of turning. One is carving a turn and the other is kick turn.

While carving, your shoulders should be parallel along with the skateboard. This will help you go straight. If you want to carve the front side, then you should open the shoulders as you lean on your other side. If you want to carve backside, you should turn your shoulders and lean on the toe sides simultaneously. At first, you may face a problem, but in the end, you will begin to be able to carve proficiently in both ways.

Step 4: Ride everywhere

If you want to master skateboard riding, you should practice all the time. You can practice by riding everywhere in your neighborhood. This will also help you get comfortable with riding and control your fear of riding.

No matter what type of skateboard you use, either wooden, plastic, or electric skateboard, the above steps are similar for all beginners.

You’ve bought a great product from Sydney Hoverboards. Now it is time for you to take out your hoverboard and learn to ride. Don’t worry, riding a hoverboard is simple. It is similar to getting a bicycle. So shed away your fears and inhibitions and let’s get you started for an exciting ride. Here we’ll address your anxiety and teach you how to ride a hoverboard without losing balance and falling off.

Let’s prepare for the first ride

You’ll need safety equipment. The hoverboard moves at a moderate pace of 10 km per hour and tipping off can give you bruises and damage your confidence. While you collect the safety equipment, make sure the hoverboard is fully charged.

The safety gear includes:

  • Helmet
  • Knee pads
  • Wristguard
  • Elbow protection
  • Tailbone protection

This gear will ensure you’ll get up and start again if you tip off.

Hoverboard Placement

It is essential to place the hoverboard carefully. Find a flat surface and place the hoverboard in front of your toes. Hoverboards move by sensing pressure from the foot, so a flat surface is essential to have equal pressure from the feet.

Your gadget has lights. Don’t let them confuse you. They’re meant for night time riding to alert people in the vicinity about your presence. These lights will help pedestrians and cars notice you while you’re walking across a zebra-crossing at night. So make sure that you step on the hoverboard with the side with lights at the front.

Time to step on

Remember the time when you first stepped on an escalator? Stepping on a hoverboard is like stepping on an escalator – you place one foot first, and then balance the other foot.

Confidence is vital in such situations. If you keep your mind occupied with fear of falling, you may make a mistake. The good part with hoverboards – they’re not moving, and there are no steps, and you’re still at home.

Know your dominant foot: For most people, handedness determines the foot dominance too. Simply put, if you write with your left hand, your left foot would probably be the dominant foot, and vice versa.

Place your feet close enough to the board so you can step on it. Place the dominant foot on the hoverboard first.

Since the board uses pressure sensors to detect your presence, there may be a little movement when you first step on it. Be prepared for it, don’t let it get to you.

Once you’ve mounted the hoverboard, stand firm and calm. Whatever nervousness you had, let it evaporate before you learn to start moving the hoverboard.

Here’s a video for your better understanding:

Time to move forward

Hoverboards are controlled through your feet. Adjusting weight on the footpads and ankle-movements help the machine determine how to move.

Tips:

  • It is preferable to have an open space so that you can move confidently
  • Look around and decide where you want to go
  • Don’t make sudden movements, you may fall off

Use your ankles to shift your weight and lean forward slowly. The board will start to move forward. The idea is to go slow. Jerking and shaking can shake your confidence too.
